About Me

My Story

Ewan Nicholson -Therapist

I grew up in rural Australia in a family affected by trauma and abuse. Like many survivors, I internalised blame and spent years chasing love and approval that felt just out of reach. In my twenties, I became part of a high-control spiritual community led by my father, who blended New Age, Christian, and Eastern ideologies. What began as a hopeful search for meaning eventually turned into an experience of spiritual abuse, psychological control, and
deep personal loss.

The group discouraged critical thinking, encouraged enmeshment, and blurred lines around power, money, and relationships. My sense of identity slowly eroded under fear-based teachings and constant pressure to conform. When my brother died by suicide, I spiralled
into addiction and despair.

Eventually, I reached a point of no return. With support and grace, I left. Recovery was long and difficult, but it led to healing from addiction, childhood trauma, and spiritual harm. Over time, I rebuilt my life with more clarity, autonomy, and compassion, for myself and others.

As a therapist...

Therapy

Today, I feel that I’ve reached a point where my experience, recovery, and insight can serve others. I’ve trained as a therapist, with a special focus on religious trauma counselling. I’m certified in the Safe and Sound Protocol, Tremoring and other somatic approaches. I have certification in Complex Trauma training level 1 and 2. I also integrate mindfulness and meditation into my work in a secular and accessible way, supporting clients in building their own tools for presence, emotional regulation, and self-awareness.

I’m currently completing my Graduate Certificate in Gestalt Therapy, and I believe its emphasis on presence, dialogue, and authenticity deeply complements trauma-healing work. I have run a YouTube channel for the past six years, where I share over 100 videos, along with reflections, practices, and guidance, to support people in healing from childhood and spiritual trauma.

I have been running my private practice, specialising in trauma recovery coaching and trauma therapy, for the past six years.

On a personal level

Ewan Nicholson and Family

I’ve been married for 19 years and am the father of two daughters aged 17 and 18. My wife and I adopted them in 2010 after they survived a tragic accident as refugees from Africa; their boat capsized 60 km off the coast of Malta. Parenting them has been one of the most enriching, challenging, and meaningful experiences of my life.

I lived in Spain for eight years and fell in love with the culture, people, and food. We now live in Brisbane, Australia. I enjoy being in nature, reading, and spending time with family and friends over meals.
