FAQS

About Trauma

1. What kind of trauma do you work with?
I work with people carrying the effects of childhood trauma, neglect, abuse, developmental trauma, addiction, emotional overwhelm, or just a persistent sense of not feeling safe in their own body or relationships. You don’t need a specific diagnosis. If you feel like something hasn’t healed ,or keeps repeating, that’s good enough place to start.

2. How is trauma different from stress?
Stress passes. Trauma gets stuck. When we’re overwhelmed beyond our capacity to cope, especially when we’re young or unsupported, the nervous system holds onto those survival responses. Trauma isn’t just what happened. It’s what stayed in the body after.

3. Do I have to remember everything that happened to heal?
No. In fact, many people don’t have clear memories. Trauma work doesn’t depend on full recall. It depends on how your body and emotions are holding the past. We start there , gently and with your full consent.

4. I’m highly functional. Could I still be dealing with trauma?
Yes. Many people I work with are high-achieving, capable, and even seen as 'together.'; But they struggle with anxiety, shame, disconnection, people-pleasing, chronic pain, or numbness. Just because you’re coping doesn’t mean you’re at peace.

About Therapy

5. What does a session with you look like?
Sessions are grounded in presence and connection. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes we slow down and notice the body. Sometimes silence or simple curiosity leads the way. I draw from Somatic practices, meditation and mindfulness, gestalt therapy, and relational work — but ultimately, we follow what feels safe and useful to you.

6. Do I have to talk about everything right away?
Not at all. You set the pace. Building trust and a sense of safety comes before any deep work. Many clients start by circling around the edges, and we go as slow or as deep as you need.

7. Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, I offer secure Zoom sessions to clients across Australia and internationally.

8. How long will therapy take?
Every person and nervous system is different. Some people come for short-term support during a crisis. Others stay for longer, working around core patterns, identity, or integration. We’ll check in regularly and make sure it still feels supportive.

For People in Recovery or with Complex Trauma

9. I’m in recovery from addiction. Can this help?
Yes. Much of addiction is rooted in trauma. I’ve been sober for over 10 years myself, and I offer trauma-informed, non-shaming support for people in early or long-term recovery. Therapy can help address the pain underneath the patterns, not just the behaviour.

10. I feel disconnected and dissociated from my body, is that normal?
Very. Disconnection is a common and intelligent response to trauma. We’ll work gently with somatic tools like Safe and Sound Protocol and tremoring to support reconnection, always at your pace.

11. What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?
That’s okay. Maybe it wasn’t the right time, approach, or relationship. All I can offer is my support, care and capacity to help with where you are and what you need and then go from there.

Practical Questions

12. Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. I offer a free 30-minute Zoom so we can connect, ask questions, and see if we’re a good fit before committing to therapy.

13. What are your rates?
My standard rate is $80 USD per session. I don’t work with insurance or rebates at this stage, but my fee is often close to the out-of-pocket cost after insurance co-pays.

14. Can I use NDIS or a mental health care plan?
Currently I’m not accepting NDIS plans or MBS referrals

15. What’s your training or background in trauma work?
I’m trained in trauma-informed care, somatic approaches, and certified in the Safe and Sound Protocol. I hold certificates in Complex Trauma Training (Levels 1 & 2), Religious Trauma Counselling and I’m currently completing my Graduate Certificate in Gestalt Therapy.

More importantly, I bring lived experience. I’ve walked through childhood trauma, addiction,
and recovery. This personal understanding informs how I show up: present, grounded, and
without judgement.
